Building Responsively

ZURB, Inc.

Overcoming the Unknown

ZURB is the product design company where I completed my second design internship after college. This internship introduced me to the West Coast and responsive design. Over three months in 2012, I was coached on sketching best practices, encouraged to be specific and direct with feedback, and pushed to iterate with intention. Bringing it all together, I illuminated ZURB's experience as the mastermind behind one of the first responsive front-end frameworks, Foundation, via a branded website.

Melding of the Minds

The goal was threefold: showcase responsive designs from the community, create a knowledge library to share tips and resources, and develop an archive for an existing monthly email. After meeting with every internal team cross-functionally to establish a baseline, I brainstormed, designed, and coded a three-page solution that we would ultimately call The Responsive Site.

The Rippled Effect

My experience as an intern with ZURB is one that I reference as a turning point in my career. So much more than web design or coding, I uncovered a rare synergy between authenticity and efficiency in their processes and engagements that allowed room for meaningful work and play. I've embraced that I carry a similar tenacity for deep understanding to this day, intentionally blurring the thin lines between branding and product to succeed holistically.
